Mandatory or ancillary fees are applied as part of the tuition and fees for all apprentice and credit courses. Charging these fees allow us to provide services to benefit all students. Students are unable to opt out of most of the following fees.


Student Support fee

This fee supports student services and resources to help our students succeed through their academic career. Services and resources available include Career Advancement Services and Student Development and Counseling. Students and apprentices cannot opt out of this fee.


Student Technology Fee

The technology fee benefits students by supporting the following.

  • Improvements to cybersecurity to protect student and institutional information.
  • Access to learning materials outside the classroom
  • Technology to enhance the student experience.

Students and apprentices cannot opt out of this fee.


SAIT Student Association fee (Saitsa)

The SAIT Student Association, or Saitsa, is a student-led, non-profit representing SAIT students. The Saitsa fee allows them to offer a number of student services, activities and programming designed to meet each student's unique needs. They will advocate for students at an institutional level and all levels if government to ensure student voices are heard. Students and apprentices cannot opt out of this fee.

There are some mandatory fees from which students can opt out in certain situations. Many of these are applied to all apprentices and students enrolled in full-time credit programs.

 

The Student Health and Dental fee is facilitated by the SAIT student association (Saitsa). This provides an affordable benefit plan designed to help full-time credit students attending SAIT.

The Universal Transit Pass or UPass is a partnership initiative between Calgary Transit and participating post-secondary institutions, including SAIT. This mandatory non-instructional fee is automatically applied once a student in an eligible program registers in nine credits. 

Review UPass for full details including cost and exemption eligibility. Apprentices must be registered in back to back training within the same semester to qualify for the UPass.

 

The Campus Recreation fee is a mandatory non-instructional fee assessed to all students (including apprentices). This fee is used to support the provision of recreation and fitness facilities, movement classes, wellness programs, student events and a number of student engagement initiatives offered throughout the year.
